In the new year, McNair's PAC group will be having their first meeting on Tuesday, January 9th at 7:00 PM in the library. This meeting is not just for PAC parents. We are opening it to ALL PARENTS because we are bringing in a special guest speaker. McNair's RCMP School Liaison Officer, Constable Eric Chan will be sharing information about internet safety and awareness.
With the advent of the smart phone, students today are faced with more information and pressure than ever before. While some of this information is helpful for them, there are several dangers that parents need to be aware of in order to help and protect their children. This session is designed to inform parents of the types of dangers to be watching for, and how to have conversations with your child about appropriate online interactions. Children are facing many dangers that were not present when we were younger, and some of these issues can be very harmful. Included in the presentation will be information about: Cyber-Bullying, Fighting and Threatening, Child Pornography and distribution of intimate images. There will also be some sharing of resources and help groups that provide support to parents and teenagers.
Attached is the PowerPoint that will frame the discussion with parents for you to preview. We encourage all of our parents to attend this session in order to stay more informed and aware of the potential dangers and popular apps and tricks that are prevalent in the Social Media world.
We hope to see many of our parents at this very informative session on Tuesday, January 9th at 7:00 PM. We will send another reminder when school restarts following the Winter Holidays on Monday, January 8th.
