Breaking Down the Walls
As part of our school goal of Building Connectedness and CARE, one of the events McNair Secondary School intends to run this school year is our second time doing Breaking Down the Walls.
Created by California High School Counsellor Phil Boyte, Breaking Down the Walls for High School students is a program designed to unify, empower, and engage every student to create a positive and supportive campus culture. McNair engaged in the program back in October of 2016 and the benefits of what was taught and learned were felt for years. With the last class to have experienced the program (our current Grade 12s who were in Grade 9 when we last did Breaking Down the Walls) set to graduate, we felt it was time to bring the program back to McNair and have signed up for February 2020.
The program includes a school wide assembly, then student leader training on day one. The next two days will be for 150 students on each day to go through the Breaking Down the Walls seminars and have everyone become more connected to one another and more willing to listen and understand that everyone is dealing with something and that we all need to be supportive and helpful to one another.
We are very much looking forward to the return of Breaking Down the Walls and will share more information with our community closer to the date.
