Core Competency Self Assessments
The BC Ministry of Education has redesigned our Curriculum, focussing on Big Ideas, Curricular Competencies and Inquiry-Based approaches. At McNair, we have long believed in the inter-disciplinary nature of education and are embracing it with several cross-curricular projects and learning. We also believe in the Core Competencies of Communication, Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking, Positive Personal and Cultural Identity, Personal Awareness and Responsibility and Social Responsibility. These Competencies are taught and learned in each of our curricular areas, and as such, we have been asking our Grade 8 and 9 students for each of the past two years to reflect on their learning in these aspects.
As we continue to embrace some of the technological advances of our Information system for students, we asked each of our students to upload their Core Competency Self-Assessments in Communication, Creative Thinking and Social Responsibility. Our students have created accounts on the Scholantis Portal and uploaded their thoughts about what they are learning and how they hope to grow.
If you are interested in seeing what your child has indicated in reflection on their Core Competency Self-Assessment, please ask them to login to their Scholantis account and show you.
