To create openness, connection and trust, teachers organized an Open Mic forum in the library. Students and teachers shared poetry that they had written or other works that resonated with them. The exercise required such vulnerability. The willingness of both staff and students to sign up and volunteer to share just a bit of themselves was a strong example of activating student voices while cultivating a culture of trust.
