Celebrating Success

McNair Student:

Vicky Nguyen was one of the few students from British Columbia chosen to present at the highly selective Global Health Leaders Conference at John Hopkins University this year. At this program, emerging global health leaders in grades 9-12 from around the world learned from one another and some of the world’s leaders in global health and medicine. In addition to Vicky, other speakers at the conference included Nobel Laureates, world-renowned professors, humanitarians, researchers, and physicians.

In a letter to the school, the organizers sincerely thanked “Matthew McNair Secondary School and community for nurturing future leaders in global health and medicine. Vicky wonderfully represented Matthew McNair Secondary School and Canada in our program.”

The recording of Vicky’s talk is linked below:

Vicky presents on foodborne diseases in developing countries by highlighting the challenges in maintaining sanitized environments and tight regulation in food processing. Vicky also outlines some approaches to help alleviate foodborne illnesses, drawing attention to international cooperation and community awareness.

McNair Senior Boys' Rugby

The team ended up with a 4th place finish in the Provincial Championships in Abbotsford. The dedication this team displayed was noteworthy - they had the most successful rugby season in school history. The coaches Chris Banks and Dave Wallace were extremely proud of not only the team's winnings but, more importantly, how these young adults conducted themselves on the field; their hard work and team spirit were commendable as they positively represented themselves and the school.
