  • Our Learning and Actions for 2018-19
    1. What will we do to enhance our student learning?
      1. Continued adoption of British Columbia’s Revised Curriculum at the Grade 10-12 years.
      2. Development of student understanding of the Core Competencies and expanding the Self-Assessments done by students to include Grade 10-12 students.
      3. Continued enhancement of the McNair CARES language and terminology so that all students are familiar with the terms and fully understand the skills and characteristics that we hope our students leave the school with.
    2. What specific actions do we plan on taking?
      1. Engaging students in Focus Group discussions about McNair Secondary and what they feel they need to get from high school.
      2. Keeping students in the same Homeroom group, with the same teacher, for the duration of their time in the school, thus enhancing their feeling of connectedness and care.
      3. The adoption of a Leadership class to the course offerings this year, whereby students will focus on both the theoretical and practical applications of human relations.
    3. What will our Professional Focus be this year?
      1. Continued adoption of British Columbia’s Revised Curriculum at the Grade 10-12 years.
      2. Development of student understanding of the Core Competencies and expanding the Self-Assessments done by students to include Grade 10-12 students.
      3. Continued refinement of the McNair CARES language and terminology so that all students are familiar with the terms and are developing and exercising the skills and characteristics of stewardship that will be practiced once they have left school.
  • Our Evidence for 2018-19
    1. How will we gather evidence regarding student learning?
      1. Anecdotal comments from groups of students via our Student Focus Groups.
      2. Through the Student Self-Assessments of the Core Competencies.
      3. Tracking of attendance records, discipline entries, enrollment in Leadership, and participation in extracurricular and volunteer activities: Student Council, Marlinaires, Athletics, Performing Arts
    2. How will we analyze and communicate this data?
      1. We will continue to use the Framework document online - highlighting the successes of our staff and students.
      2. Communication - dialogue, discussion, shared results - via PAC Meetings, McNair Newsletters, Staff Meetings and Homeroom classes
    3. How will we know if we have made a difference?
      1. Building upon School/Community Relationships to gauge and evaluate the school’s reputation.
      2. Tracking the stories of our graduate students and inviting them to share how the set of skills that are exemplified in the McNair CARES language have continued to be impactful.
      3. Reduced incidences of bullying, increased attendance, higher reports of engagement in the classroom, improved work habits, and increased Graduation rates.
